But, in reality, organizational skills, in-depth familiarity with process identification and implementation, personal communications skills and attention to detail, coupled with a personal love of animals, might make you the ideal llama ranch manager. When youve researched the skills and abilities that are required, compare that list to a list of your own skills. If you have all or most of the skills already under your belt, then your career move may, indeed, be a good choice. If not, you should consider the amount of time, effort, and money it will require to get yourself up to speed. Talk with people who already work in the field that youve chosen. You can gather a great deal of information about the daily routine, and whether or not youll find the work challenging and satisfying from casual conversations with professionals in your new area Use the Internet to research your new industry. Visit the websites of companies, organizations and professional associations in that field. Review job postings for open positions. You will gain valuable insight into the industry as a whole, and begin to build a list of prospective employers for which you want to work. Needless to say, it is also very helpful if you have friends, family, or acquaintances who are already working in that industry. Having people inside can open doors for you, and help you to begin to build a network of contacts to support you not only in your initial move to a new industry, but also in building your new career in the future. Other obvious, but often overlooked, sources of information are trade journals and publications. You can often subscribe to newsletters from companies or professional organizations for free. Another choice are Trade publications, which offer great insight into a specific vocation or industry. On a personal note, it will make your career move much more exciting and enjoyable if you have the support of your family and your loved ones. Even if they are not as confident and as excited as you are, you should at least determine that they are not going to make your transition more difficult by offering you active resistance. It is also a good indication that this is the right decision for you if you have discussed it with professional acquaintances, mentors, and peers who are well aware of your abilities and your limitations, and they are supportive of your choice. It is also important for you to understand not only what is attractive and exciting about your new career field, but also what the drawbacks and issues are. Be very careful to give yourself a balanced perspective on all aspects of the field youve chosen. If you are still determined to make the change, even after youve educated yourself to the downside of your new career, you can proceed with confidence. Along the same line, launching a new career will bring about changes in your lifestyle, your leisure time, your circle of friends, your job satisfaction level, and even the kinds of experiences you will have. Be sure to consider all these aspects, both yourself and with your loved ones, as these aspects of your decision may impact their lives as well. By Bill Nimmo Reducing murder to manslaughter is a task that presents itself in many murder cases. Depending on your state or jurisdiction you may be able to reduce murder to manslaughter by eliminating the element of malice. Classically, this is where the defendant acts by being provoked into a sudden quarrel or into a state of mind known as the heat of passion. The mental state of heat of passion is not just one emotion. It can be anger, jealously, or any other agitated state of mind in the normal range of human behavior. If a person is intentionally killed but the defendant was provoked or was in the heat of passion due to some provocative circumstance of the alleged victim, the killing is said to be mitigated to voluntary manslaughter. The defendant cannot just set up his or her own standard of conduct. The situation causing the heat of passion must be such that a reasonable person under the circumstances would have been provoked to act out of passion rather than logic. The classic example given in law schools is where a person comes home unexpectedly and finds their spouse in bed with another person. This is the type of act that could cause any reasonable person to act out of passion and emotion rather than logic. Usually these cases happen in times of great stress and emotion and a psychologist or psychiatrist should be employed to see if any factors of the mental state of the defendant or victim can be used to reduce the offense to manslaughter. How mental state factors can be used depend upon the laws of the jurisdiction in which the case is being tried. If it can be shown that the killing was unintentional, but reckless, in some states the case can be reduced to involuntary manslaughter. Involuntary manslaughter carries a significantly lower penalty than voluntary manslaughter. Sometimes what looks like a murder, an intentional killing, is really an accident under extremely stressful circumstances. Note that in some states an unintentional killing, if extreme enough, can be murder. Generally that type of act must be more than recklessness. Typically, to make an unintentional act murder there must exist a callous disregard for human life. In some states those types of acts are called depraved heart murders. As an example, a female was charged with murder when she stabbed her husband in the chest with a steak knife. They were in the kitchen making dinner and got into an argument. Because the knife hit a major artery near the heart, he died within minutes. The defendant told two different stories about what happened. She said it was an accident and she didnt mean to kill him. She was prosecuted for murder and taken to trial. The defense noticed that the location and angle of the wound seemed odd for an intentional stabbing. The blade went in at an angle rather than vertical. This didnt seem consistent with how a person intentionally stabbing another would have stabbed. Also, the blade went right between the ribs in a soft area of cartilage. It seemed unlikely that a non professional could have known this vulnerability and hit it so precisely. The defense retained a well-known pathologist who totally agreed and testified that all of the circumstances were consistent with an accident and inconsistent with patterns of known stabbings. A psychiatrist also testified to the womans exaggerated startle response because of beatings from a prior relationship. The defense theory was that she accidentally stabbed her boyfriend when he quickly advanced towards her in the argument. She over-reacted and, without consciously knowing it, thrust her knife hand forward. The knife went through the butter-soft cartilage and pierced the artery. The jury found her not guilty of murder and found her guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Had she not been under the influence of drugs, the jury might have found the act to be a pure accident and totally excused her. To show that a killing is either voluntary manslaughter or involuntary manslaughter, a thorough investigation, analysis, and reconstruction is mandated. Even if the act was not the type that would justify reducing a murder to manslaughter, the fact that the defendant was in the heat of passion could eliminate premeditation and deliberation and reduce the degree of the murder. Example of how Id paint a picture of that behavior: Since Im going to focus on behaving this way on a regular basis, Im definitely going to use the same large canvass so the painting feels close to me. My paint strokes will be fast paced since I feel energetic. Ill be wearing my workout clothes as Im power walking on a treadmill inside the gym. There is going to be a smile on my face and a look of determination! The productive behavior: The painting (draw your picture on a separate piece of paper): If you ever find yourself feeling negative about the way you look in the future and are tempted to behave in any unproductive fashion, then you must take control. Once again, yell out SPLASH! and destroy the old painting of the unproductive behavior that you envisioned and thought about resorting to. Use the power of your mind to change the interpretation of the image, sounds or feelings that you’re expressing to yourself from a negative to a positive. Immediately afterwards, create a new painting that displays a more productive behavior thats linked to your new positive feelings and act it out. Repeat this technique as many times as needed making sure to remind yourself of the painful consequence that youll experience for once again adopting that unproductive behavior. In exchange, think about the many ways in which youll be rewarded by sticking to your productive behavior! Awesome! Youve now made your empowering decisions of action that will soon become habits of your own and understand the expected results, while also knowing the consequences if you break them. Though, I must warn you that life does have it’s unexpected moments! As humans we do get temptations and urges. Other highly emotional moments can come up as well. This can make it difficult to stick with one or all of those decisions to behave in a productive way even after those behaviors have become a habit. When confronted by these unexpected situations, your mind automatically searches for a way to fulfill your bodys need to become satisfied and content. Its possible to fulfill your bodys needs and remain glued to your empowering decisions without resorting to your old and unproductive behaviors. I have a wonderful friend that gives and gives and gives to me. He gives me his time, he gives me his money and he gives me his ears as I speak and cry out my pain. There is a verse in the Bible that says a good friend is closer then a brother and this is what this man is to me. My friend Yianni has a fervent love for me and his love for me has covered a multitude of my sins against him. Time and time I have been angry at him and a few times we have had fights where we broke up as friends but we continue to forgive each other and come back to each other. I speak in tongues and can interpret tongues in public meetings but fall way short of this kind of love in all my actions and this makes me a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy. I have the gift of prophecy and have blessed many people with this gift but I have fell way short in love on many more occasions. I show partiality in those that I chose as friends. If people dont listen to me and want to dominate me I dont want to be their friend, but its okay for me to do that to them. and understand all mysteries and all knowledge. I dont understand all the mysteries and all knowledge but I dont even apply the knowledge of this love chapter as a model on how to love so how foolish am I? and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. This week I was struck down with a sleeping illness, part of my mental illness where I could not get out of bed, and I was desperate. A man from overseas wrote to and I told him of my condition and he wrote me an answer. Dear matthew Thank you for the reply, For your sickness, please do this: Take some salt put it in lukewarm water, make a prayer to cleanse your body and drinking it. Its what I hear God says to you. Its by faith, I do hope you get this evil out of your body soon, it is stopping you from your work in Christ. May you be blessed as you obey his simple instructions. Cheers Well I took his advice had the restaurant I ate at prepare the cure and prayed a prayer of faith and swallowed it and today I was able to get up okay and did not have a day overcome with tiredness. Yet I still lack in love and you could say that even opening up to you like this is a kind of boasting which is not my intention. Joseph who gave me that answer from the Lord for my illness is a valuable man of God and very humble and yet pure love is not puffed up the scripture says and is not rude which I often am. I am not sure how I will be able to preach in the future when I get a lot of these things sorted out, I wont be able to illustrate my points as well. I so often dominate conversations and this is not respecting others or being loving. The other day when my depression had me worn down and this sleeping sickness had come over me I wanted just to be dead and in heaven and I wanted to give up. But there is no place to go. I cant go back to the world, and I couldnt cure myself so I cried out to the Lord for him to heal me. Ten minutes later the healing was in my email box. The Lord is good. Did you hear that guys? The Lord Jesus Christ is good and His Father in Lights is awesome and their grace and healing powers who can fathom? I love Jesus. Who can consider going back to sin lifestyle and the way of the world? Have you got this form of love? A burning fervent love? One that can heal through seeking the Lord for a cure to a brothers illness and the faith to write it down. Christians Took Christ Out of Christmas Years Ago So Why All the Crying About XMas?

By Les Herron There is a movie on DVD called “Christmas With the Kranks”. The movie is based upon a John Grisham novel called Skipping Christmas. Mr. Krank is the star of the story. He is tired of spending so much money on Christmas and faking good cheer so he hatches what he sees to be a brilliant scheme to skip Christmas; not just skip Christmas but leave for a dream cruise on Christmas Eve. He enlists his wife in this plan which appears to be heading towards success but falls apart on Christmas Eve day. Tim Allen, who plays Mr. Krank, is sort of a modern day Grinch or Scrooge who is seen as being a Bah! Humbug sort of fellow. Of course, as in all good stories there is redemption in the end as Mr. Krank realizes the true meaning of Christmas is family, friends, and tradition. The only problem with his realization is that the true meaning of Christmas is the birth of a Baby named Jesus who was born for the sole purpose of being sacrificed and resurrected so the world could be rescued from damnation and live eternally with God. It is okay, though, that the book and the movie got the meaning of Christmas wrong; most of us Christians who claim the holiday as ‘ours’ have gotten it wrong for about 100 years. Yep, as soon as we invited Santa Clause into our homes and lied about the existence of an all powerful, always present, and discerning evil fat man in a red suit into our homes we were on a slippery slope towards wiping Christ out of Christmas. When we told them about Santa with equal enthusiasm as we told them about God in heaven, Jesus as friend, and the Holy Spirit as Comforter we blew it. When we started celebrating by giving gifts to ourselves and to those who can return gifts to us instead of doing the Christ (ian) thing of giving to those who cannot give in return and loving those who were unlovely and worse yet hated us then we strayed from the path of Christ thinking that made Jesus perfect and true and right. The crucified Jesus has played second fiddle to Santa for too long but no one has seemed to care enough to notice. Do you children get their picture taken with a fake Santa or with a fake Jesus? Do we say Ho! Ho! Ho! in celebration or Holy! Holy! Holy! in glorification? Do we wrap our gifts in pretty paper with Santa and snow on them or in swaddling clothes or shepherd scenes to remember the Perfect Lamb? During these festive seasons do we party with those we love and feel comfortable with or do we party with the down and outers, the lonely, and those that polite culture has forgotten about (except for throwing them a couple of bucks, a scoop of soup, or a warm blanket)? Many Christian groups hated Christmas and vehemently opposed it up until the late 1800’s because they could find no scriptural support for it. Can you? Neither can I. As a matter of fact there were only 18 of our United States that even recognized it as a holiday in a large part because the Puritans couldnt stand it (which is odd that they could stand the scratchy wool clothing, the funny hats, and the ban on all card games and almost any entertainment; I think had I lived in that era I would have to have become an Indian instead of a Puritan and worn some nice moccasins, some feathers, and leather; believe it or not, I look good in feathers and leather!). I love the Christmas stories and movies and traditions. There are several movies we watch every year and the best of all is “Youll shoot your eye out!” as proclaimed by the loving mom in The Christmas Story. I love the idea of snow at Christmas and I’m a sucker for decorative lights, candles, and even red during Christmas. I love a Santa with a real beard and a beer belly covered in red velvet. There is nothing better than the parties at the office, at the church, and in the homes of friends.Yet none of that represents the Christ who was born in order to die for me. None of that shows Gods love for me and for the entire world. And when it comes to taking the name of Christ off this holiday of insane consumerism and meism I am just not very concerned. In fact, the holiday probably gives God a black eye in that He is so poorly represented in a holiday with His name on it. So, what is the deal with Xmas? It really should be $mas! And let us not fool ourselves into thinking that we celebrate the holidays much differently than non-Christian families. We may not drink the egg nog that makes you happy and we may not give cigars or R-rated games and DVD’s for gifts but do if we were really wanting to keep Christ in Christmas then we would be giving gifts of eternal value instead of highly valuing gifts that will last such a short time. And I hate to keep saying this but it is straight up Jesus’ words; you do not reflect God’s love when you give to yourself or to others who already love you! Jesus said that even the dirty, dark hearted sinners do that. The love of Christ gives to those who cannot give in return. The love of God reached out and sought me even while I was yet in my sin and continues to draw me into His heart. Another thing is this: I feel forced to take offense at non-believers who use Xmas but fellow Christians (and yes, I am saved!) look at me like I am insane when I am not indignant enough or offended at the same thing that offends them. Well, I refuse to be offended or upset (you can’t make me!) at what non-believers do. Was Jesus? It seems He was an offense to the religious and a Savior to the lost; choosing to circumvent political and moral dilemmas in order to offer them an eternal intimacy. This year my heart has changed in the middle of the Christmas debate. Instead of jumping on the side of the guys who know everything Jesus would do and tossing hand grenades at the liberals, I am saddened by the fact that it is just a holiday for them to receive worldly trinkets of no value in the long run. I am also horribly convicted that I dont care any more about them then that they entered into my world and used a 4-letter word, drank a beer, or placed an X where I think Christ should be. So, Christians, just stop worrying about losing this holiday to the dastardly heathens in the retail industry and begin to feel convicted about losing your light and your saltiness. The holiday was lost years ago to the gospel of self and the retail industry is just riding the wave to financial victory; and I think that we are just figuring this out.
