Good Marriage Killers: 10 Tips for Damaging Fine Relationships

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

By Nili Sachs, Ph.D There are many methods used to teach marriage education, tools for marriage, psycho-educational seminars, workshops, therapy, relationship coaching and more. Over 30 years of practice, I have offered them all. One couple did not respond well to any of the methods I tried. One day I suggested re-phrasing the lessons they were trying to integrate. To my surprise they got it. Here is how they finally heard me: 1. Description of a problem in relationship: One of you has an issue, emotional pain or pressure that is relationship related. Solution: Wait until that pressure blows over. If the pain does not go away, sweep it under the rug. If you take things literally and in case you dont own a rug, well, maybe if the two of you go out shopping for a rug the problem will be solved. 2. Problem: One of you is always complaining on the limitations of your budget and how the financial debts are killing the mood. Solution: When your partner has finally found a second job; make sure to notice and count the days and hours they are absent. Especially, find ways to point out how they are always too tired to notice you, complement you and spend time together. 3. Difficulties for parents with young children: When your kids demand toys and things:One of you should agree with the poor children. Insist that by disagreeing with each other in front of the kids, the next generation will observe democracy at home and a fair balance. 4. When in public, in social events and among extended family members make sure you practice being: understanding, charming, open-minded, generous, affectionate and sensuous. When with your spouse/partner privately: dont. 5. The success of winning an argument depends on your ability to get up, leave the room and slam the door behind you. That will show them! 6. As you know: life is very short. Therefore live as if you live alone in that household; dont pick up or clean up after yourself. Dont waste time consulting each other when redecorating, remodeling etc… Dont share feelings of joy or sorrow; that will really throw your timing off. 7. The routine of sexual life is very important: make sure you make love in the same place, same day of the week, even at the same time. If you are a real perfectionist, try to climax at the same time 8. Fidelity is a very crucial value in marriage. Always demand fidelity. And in every opportunity refuse intimate bonding, affection and closeness as your best weapon in the relationship. 9. When and if you think you are right and just; dont give in! Insist that your opinion is justified. Give it a little time; youll see how they will cave in under your pressure. 10. Dissatisfaction in sexual happiness? Dont share your feelings with your spouse. However, if you have best friends, or better yet, a group of friends ask for their advice. In any case do not call me for consultation, therapy or coaching. Does Your Marketing Information Help You To Sell?

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

By Jordi Shoman Marketing information does need to tell all about the features of the product or service that you sell. One important factor that many business owners forget about when they write this material is that they have to make it very enticing to the customer. The marketing material has to convince them to buy by pointing out all the reasons why they cannot live without whatever it is that you sell. This is a major aspect of your marketing plan that you must include in your advertising literature. Marketing information has to persuade customers to buy your product. Why not browse the marketing literature that your competitors use? You cannot copy any of this directly, but it will give you a good idea of how you should proceed. You can look at the pros and cons of how your competitors market their products and this will help you come up with exceptional marketing brochures that will bring in the customers. Improve on what your competitors are saying in an effort to show your customers why they should buy from you. One thing you should avoid when preparing marketing information is mentioning any of your competitors by name. This is a no-no because customers will view it as being in bad taste. You want them to buy what you are selling, but you don’t want to put any other company down. Another aspect of doing this is that you really do have to prove your claim or you could be sued for distributing false information if you say anything derogatory about another product when mentioning it by name. It is all right to say similar products without being specific. Your marketing strategy for the information you want to bring to the public has to have a clear focus - that of bringing in paying customers. Therefore you should tell the price of your item and if you have a competitive price for something that people really want, you will sell it. Build your literature around the most unique features and you will have a good marketing brochure. Running a small business or looking to start one up? A Healthy Way to be Sick

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

By Marc Lerner A person who deals with a physical condition that is beyond their control has to accept an inner depth, which is uncommon in society. If all we do is try to fit into society, we ignore the unique opportunity our illness offers. Our illness forces us beyond the socially accepted depth and allows us an inner exploration most people ignore. I am partially blind, so it is hard for me to see my outer world. This forces me to look within and explore parts of myself that are not a normal part of society. I am legally blind looking outside of myself, but most people are “legally blind” looking within. If I had to choose which was worst, inner blindness would be my choice. I believe it is the cause of most of our suffering. I have had multiple sclerosis since 1981 and I have tried every possible cure that came my way. I am on a weekly shot medication today, but I have tried several diets. I do acupuncture and massage treatments regularly and I have done several alternative treatments including Bee venom and purification methods. I benefited from these treatments; but I am still legally blind with several other symptoms of multiple sclerosis. Looking Within Over the decades of making serious efforts to heal myself using everything that held promise, I learned a beautiful lesson. No matter who you are or what condition you are in, the silence beyond our thinking mind is an amazing resource for fulfillment. Becoming aware of that resource is what I call “a healthy way to be sick.” That silence is free from disturbing thoughts and fears, giving you a shelter where you are free from your illness and the struggle you are in. It is at that depth the Wisdom of your Body responds to your medication without the distractions from your thinking mind. Even when you are dealing with a chronic illness, like multiple sclerosis, there is an inner peace at that depth. In my condition, if I was to limit my focus to my superficial thinking mind, I would easily become depressed. I am forced to go deeper. Once I was asked “how do we create the ideal state of mind?” My answer was: Take away everything that isn’t the Ideal State of Mind. When imperfection is removed, we have what existed before we were messed up. In other words, deep within all of us is a wisdom that may not be perfect, but is free to change and evolve. The real task we all face is to learn how can we return to that ideal state of mind. When we rely on the wisdom of the body, we learn to accept the beauty of life. Our illness or disability may limit us as we adapt to society, but that same situation has the power to force us into a wonderful self-acceptance and that is what I think is a healthy way to be sick. From that state of mind you create an inner healing environment, where you become an active partner with your doctor. Use your thinking mind to uplift your spirits and work with your doctor and medical team. Your thoughts were not created to depress you or limit you in any way. Thinking, like the clothes you wear can be put on or taken off. Dress up to meet the incredible challenge where you consciously participate in healing. Don’t go shabby to an event that is so significant. Copyright 2005 Marc A. Lerner Marc Lerner is the President of Life Skills Inc. and the author of The Life Skills Approach. Corporate Branding and Trade Shows - 8 Tips for Marketing Managers

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

By Julia O’Connor Trade shows are part of the marketing mix and the appearance by your firm should be a continuum of your entire marketing including advertising, public relations and events. While you may introduce a new product or showcase a service, many firms make mistakes by not connecting the overall corporate branding with the show. How can an exhibit staff person be up to speed on what the company is doing? BEFORE THE SHOW 1. Make sure you have information about the exhibit what is in it, why it is there before the show. Not the day before but as soon as you get your assignment. The exhibit manager has the responsibility to make sure the exhibit is on time and looks great - among many other duties. The marketing team decides the theme, products highlighted and rationale. 2. Read your company and division web sites. Sure, there are lots of pages but there are hidden nuggets in there that you may have forgotten or may be new to you. Heres what you may not know attendees who are serious about meeting with you well, they will check your web site. Best to be as informed as your prospective clients are. 3. Read all the promotional materials that you will hand out. If an attendee has a question while at the booth, your answer will not be DUH? 4. Know what is in all the demonstrations. Are there cues to expand on the demo? Clues as to how to lead a conversation? Listen carefully and make your life easier. 5. Read advertising in your trade publications. What does your firm promote versus your competitors? Can you explain the differences? 6. While reading the trades, look for articles and releases about your company. Check your online press release section or ask the PR department about releases sent before the show. 7. Understand the role of your firm if a sponsor of an event. 8. Ask. Ask. Ask until you get answers that satisfy you. Your goal is to make you the best representative for the company you can be. Having an understanding of the broad marketing aspects before the show makes your firm well branded at event. Julia O’Connor Speaker, Author, Consultant Trade Show Training, inc.
