How To Set Up An Advertising Group To Sell, Sell, Sell!

May 4th, 2008 by dayajubainville

By Jim Hart There are several fundamental problems facing business start-ups and chief among them is raising financial capital to support operations, production, marketing and sales. Obviously, sales are the most important activity for a business but is often at this point, with a lack of sales, when the reality sets in that without money you cannot advertise in any meaningful way. Even something as simple as classified advertising requires a meaningful advertising budget in order to test ads, fail, adjust, test, fail, adjust until you find the winning ad. When considering other advertising like newspaper ads, direct mail, radio and TV spots, advertising budgets morph into something outside the reach of most under-capitalized business owners. Even Internet advertising can be cost prohibitive, especially when you consider the cost- per-click and the low conversion ratios. You can have the best product or service in the world and if you cannot afford to advertise it, you wont sell it. The exception to this statement is if you have an outside sales force, which, by its very nature, is another expensive and cost prohibitive option for a start-up. Obviously, there are exceptions to every rule but for most start-ups, these are the realities. So what can you do to raise money to advertise your wares on and off line? One answer is to form an advertising group. One of the best ways to from an advertising group is to put together a LLC (Limited Liability Corporation) which has the benefits of a corporation and approaches the simplicity of a sole proprietorship or partnership. The purpose of the LLC is to recruit investors to invest into the group for the sole purpose of advertising the product or service. Among the benefits of having such an advertising group is the fact that investment risk is shared with no single investor carrying the burden alone. Additionally, the advertising group can be active investors meaning; that the group makes advertising decision as a mastermind group, sharing the risk and rewards of decision making thereby removing the burden from you to call all the shots. It is a way for you to arrange a board of interested directors who have a direct responsibility for the success of the group. It gets the investors involved in the advertising and selling aspect of a product or service while keeping them separated from the original business. For example, you could incorporate your start-up business and hold all the stock and, incorporate the advertising group and give away 90 percent of the stock (retain 10% for yourself) in exchange for investment capital. In this way, your core business is specifically focused on operations and order fulfillment while the advertising group specializes on advertising and selling what your core business provides. You can keep 100% ownership and control of your core business and share in the ownership of the advertising group. If the advertising group fails, your core business remains intact. This way, you can set up another advertising group and try again with another group of investors. By having the investors actively engaged in the advertising decisions of the group, their success or failure is ultimately their responsibility. You will need the services of an attorney to make sure you are in legal and financial compliance with city. State and federal authorities including the FTC and SEC laws regarding stock sales. One way to overcome the cost of legal and accounting services is to offer the attorney and accountant 5 or 10% ownership in the advertising group in exchange for services (a performance agreement based on results). These two key players, if selected correctly, can help recruit investors and lend credibility to the advertising group start-up. Sugar Cookie Recipes: Decorating Bonanza

April 28th, 2008 by dayajubainville

By Ann Krause In the world of cookie baking, there is no more “core” creation than the sugar cookie recipe. Like the peanut butter cookie, the sugar cookie is endlessly malleable, lending itself to all manner of flavors for all manner of occasions. Anyone who’s ever gone through a Christmas cookie baking session also knows the other great thing about sugar cookie dough: It lends itself readily to being molded into a countless number of shapes. From Christmas trees to wreaths to snowmen and angels, there’s no holiday-related shape you won’t find. There are even contests each year awarding prizes for the most creative and/or outlandish sugar cookie designs. The usual decoration used on these cookies is colored sugar. You can either buy pre-made colored sugars or make your own by putting a few drops of food coloring into a jar full of sugar and shaking thoroughly. Be sure not to fill the jar too full or the sugar won’t have room to move around and combine. Candies are another great decoration tool. Cinnamon “red hots” come in handy for buttons on a snowman, ornaments on a Christmas tree or dozens of other uses. Chocolate shavings make great hats for snowmen or branches in a wreath. Even the ever-popular chocolate chips can come into play as eyes on the snowman or other tree ornaments. If you really want to get fancy, mix up some brightly colored icing and use it to illuminate the edges of the cookies or draw in details of your design. You can use thick, puffy icing that will make your cookies three-dimensional, or make thin glazes that will color either the whole cookies or just a section. Experiment with making a wreath-shaped cookie in red and green alternating bands, for example. If you’re going to be packing your cookies either for shipment or as part of a cookie swap, bear in mind that you’ll need to take that into account in your decoration. Puffy icings or especially delicate decorations may not make the trip. Healthy Weight Loss In Three Weeks

April 26th, 2008 by dayajubainville

By Tisha Diaz Healthy weight loss in three weeks certainly can be done. Let’s examine how you can do it and what you can do in three weeks. The first important thing to do is to set your expectations in terms of how much weight you can lose in a three week period. For this you need to think about two things. Firstly, you need to think about weight loss that you can notice on the dial of the scale and secondly you need to think about weight loss that you can see in the mirror. Healthy weight loss in three weeks is going to give you some difference that you will notice on the scale, but you are probably not going to notice a big difference in the mirror. The reason for this is the way your body burns fat. Your body starts burning fat from around your organs. That is the fat that your body needs the least for protection. When that store of fat around your organs has been sufficiently depleted, only then does your body turn to the outer layers and burn that fat. It is a built-in self-preservation mechanism of your body that nobody can change. To have a healthy weight loss in three weeks, you need to increase your metabolism by eating smaller meals more frequently. This fools your body into thinking that it does not need to store additional fat because it is being fed regularly. Then, you also need to combine it with moderate exercise. The optimal fat burning aerobic kind of exercise is at a level where you can carry a normal conversation throughout your exercise. You can do this by walking for forty minutes, cycling in the gym, or walking or jogging on a treadmill. Any type of aerobic exercise will kick your body into fat burn mode when you do it for longer than 10 to 12 minutes. Around 40 minutes is a good benchmark. Trimming down by healthy weight loss in three weeks will leave you with less fat. More importantly, it will give you the routine and determination to see it through to the end where you’ve lost all the excess weight. Tisha Diaz recommends this www.losefatpro.com fat loss and weight control program that will help you get rid of those excess pounds and make you slim and trim. Costs For College Students On The Rise: What Can You Do?

April 24th, 2008 by dayajubainville

By Lizzy Scully With the price of tuition rising steadily around the United States year after year, students may want to be more cautious about where they are moving to. Students face a variety of costs of living, including accommodation, food, household bills, clothes, travel, socializing, leisure and sport, and study costs such as books, materials, and field trips for courses of study. Moving to a low-cost area could make a huge difference in the amount of loan money a student has to pay back 10, 20, and even 30 years after they finish their degree. I was lucky. My father paid my college tuition, which was quite expensive the year I went out of state to the University of Delaware. I didnt think about money at that time; my parents had just always paid for all the big thingsschool, car, rent, clothing. I paid for some things, but I never took my education seriously until I went to graduate school and paid for it myself. It was during the planning phase for graduate school that I realized life was going to become a heck of a lot more expensive and that I was going to have to borrow more money than I had ever earned in one year. So, rather than choose a college based on its reputation or alleged high quality of education, I chose a college that I could get into quickly, where I could learn what I needed to know, and where the overall cost wasnt going to keep me in deep, dark debt forever. I went to Utah State University in Logan, Utah. Luckily I found low prices and excellent teachers who taught me what I needed to know. Logan lies on the Wasatch Front, a 120-mile urban area on the west side of the Wasatch Range of Utah that is almost totally connected by a continuous development of suburbs and downtown districts. The largest downtown district is Salt Lake City, which is two hours south of Logan. The average cost of living along the Front Range is at or below the national average, and average home prices are typically lower than average, unless you live near any of the numerous ski resorts in the area. Average home prices in Salt Lake City run just under $200,000 and are $10,000 to $20,000 lower in nearby Ogden, which is just north of Salt Lake. Logans prices run about the same, although for me, as with the majority of students, that wasnt such a concern because I was renting. Rental rates currently average just $500 in Logan, although I dont remember finding any two-bedroom apartments for that price. Still, sharing an apartment, I never paid more than $500 all together for rent and bills. Food prices, health care, recreation, and entertainment also cost very little. Compared to my friends who live and go to school in Boulder, Colorado, this is an excellent bargain. Plenty of other reasonably priced areas can be found in the Midwest and away from popular mountain and coastal areas. Avoid high cost areas such as the heart of the Northeast, Southern California, and Northwest coastal regions. However, if you dont mind compromising a bit, youll find a few sweet spots not far away from the hotspots. For example, Syracuse, New York, hosts a university with the same name as well as a variety of other colleges; average home prices are almost half the national average there. Bellingham hosts Western Washington State University; home prices there are at the national average and the overall cost of living is just slightly above. And, California sports Eureka in Humboldt County, which is home to the College of the Redwoods and is by the coast. Eurekas home prices and rental rates are only slightly higher than the national average (about $320,000), and the cost of living falls well below the cost of living found elsewhere in California. The following selection of college towns are some of FindYourSpot.coms finest and most popular among members. These towns boast reasonable home prices, relatively low rental rates, and low overall costs of living. They also all have colleges, most have low or very low crime rates, and all have quality health care facilities. Abilene, Texas, home to Abilene Christian University and McMurry University, has rental rates that run just under $500 per month; the average home price is about $120,000; and the cost of living is 15-25% below the national average. Home of Indiana University and Ivy Technical College, Bloomington, Indiana, boast monthly rental rates of $600 per month; homes cost an average of $170,000; and the overall cost of living is 3% below the national average. Lynchburg, Virginia, hosts Lynchburg College, Randolph Macon Womens College, and Liberty University. Rental rates are just under $500 per month; average home prices run about $172,000; and the cost of living is 10-15% below the national average. Athens, Georgia, which is consistently ranked as one of Americas Top College Towns, hosts the University of Georgia. Average monthly rental rates are about $520; average home prices are $175,000; and the cost of living runs between 1-5% below the national average. Iowa City, Iowa, home to the University of Iowa, boasts monthly rental rates of $600; average home prices run about $220,000; and the overall cost of living is approximately equal to the national average. Burlington, Vermont, is home to a college of the same name, the University of Vermont, and St. Michaels College. Average monthly rental rates are just a touch higher than $600; the average single family home costs about $230,000; and the overall cost of living falls 1-10% below the national average. Fort Collins, Colorado, home to Colorado State University, is another city that consistently ranks among Americas Best Places to live. Average rental rates here are around $800 according to a variety of sources I checked. However, I have a friend who rents a beautiful three-bedroom home for $775 thats just 10 minutes from the university. Average home prices in the city run close to $250,000; and the overall cost of living is just a touch above the national average. Eugene, Oregon, home to the University of Oregon, boasts monthly rental rates that are just a touch above $600; the average price for a single family home is $275,000; and the overall cost of living is about 6% above the national average. Chico, California, home to California State University, has relatively low monthly rental rates of less than $600. Home prices are just slightly higher than average, running about $350,000; and the overall cost of living is just 10-20% above the national average, making Chico another of Californias sweet spots. Hilo, Hawaii, home to the University of Hawaii, boasts fairly low monthly rental rates of about $550 per month; average home prices are especially low for Hawaii, running about $355,000; and the overall cost of living is 20-25% above the national average. Tempe and Phoenix, Arizona, are home to numerous universities. This sprawling area has the full gamut of rental rates, although the average is between $500 and $600 per month. Home prices also range widely, although the average home price is on par with the national average of just under $300,000. The overall cost of living here is just slightly higher than the national average. How To Recognize Symptoms Of Depression

April 22nd, 2008 by dayajubainville

By Athlyn Green When symptoms of depression are affecting quality of life, a person may find himself asking the following questions. Why is life so frustrating? Why do I feel so irritable? Why do I feel so exhausted all of the time? If you find that coping with everyday challenges is getting the best of you, it may be time to reassess your emotional well-being. Although life can be stressful, at times, and external events can and do influence mood, it may be that you are suffering from a condition that afflicts millions of people each year. Depression symptoms may be influencing the way you perceive life and how you react to it. You may, in fact, be suffering from depression. When it comes to recognizing symptoms for depression, surprisingly, these can be missed. Feeling frustrated or irritable is common and many people have, at times, experienced exhaustion, so people suffering from depression may live with a particular set of symptoms that persist for years, failing to recognize that something more serious is at work. This is just the way I am. Doesnt everyone feel this way? a sufferer might ask. People are often harder on themselves than they would be with others and this also can influence how they view their emotional state. I dont want to be too soft on myself, they think, downplaying their symptoms of depression. When discussing depression symptoms, it is important to realize that these are multi-faceted and wide-ranging. Intense sadness can mar existence. Anxiety can feel alarming. Confidence may be lacking, which can make social functioning difficult. Life may be viewed as a series of mishaps. Preoccupation with personal mistakes or self-criticism can be ongoing. Small tasks can sometimes feel larger than life. Lack of energy and feeling exhausted can be accompanied by sleep disturbances that dont ease that tired feeling. Irritation and anger may have the upper hand. Loss of interest in everyday activities may make it seem that life is dull, something that has to be gotten through. Hope may have fled and it may be hard to picture a satisfying future with these symptoms for depression can seriously impact quality of life. Thankfully, when it comes to treatment for symptoms of depression, help is readily available. Conventional treatment may draw on medication and psychotherapy and these two methods may prove helpful. Alternative treatments have also been shown to be very effective in treating and alleviating depression. Natural supplementation is becoming popular because it doesnt necessarily present the same side effects. Research has shed light on neurotransmitter, brain, and nervous system malfunctioning and has provided insights on how nutritional deficiencies can play a role in how and why imbalances occur. Natural remedies act to correct malfunctioning and restore balance, there-by improving mood and well being, reducing depression symptoms. Natural, good quality supplements contain vitamins, minerals, and co-factors, amino acids and enzymes, herbal extracts, and specialty supplements. Specific ingredients may include ginkgo biloba, for concentration and mental clarity, beneficial for treatment of cognitive decline and depression symptoms; green tea with polyphenols, used for improved cognitive performance; valerian which has been used to treat restlessness and anxiety-induced sleep disorders, insomnia, and depression; B6, which supports nerve tissues and is used in the treatment of depression. Natural remedies incorporate essential and effective ingredients that reduce symptoms for depression sufferers. More information about natural supplements and recognizing symptoms of depression, can be found at our site. Help and hope are available. Depression symptoms dont have to go unrecognized and untreated. If you think you may be suffering from this condition, it is comforting to know that treatment options are flexible and can bring about a reduction in symptoms for depression sufferers. Tips For Preparing Your Garden For The Season

April 20th, 2008 by dayajubainville

By Dave Truman Weeding Though many gardeners prefers mulching to weeding, there are times when you have to think about weeding anyway. When the plants are very small, and before you apply any summer mulch, you need to get right there and pull out (or snip out) the weeds which may come in to choke your little new perennials or annuals, or the little shrubs you may decide to grow from seeds. Since many weeds are truly beneficial - either for good influences from their root exudates or plant aromas, and in certain instances for food for the gardener - it pays to be cautious about your attempts to eliminate them. Good deep-rooted weeds will bring up into the topsoil and into plants’ stems fine supplies of nitrogen. When you till them in, weeds will supply the soil with good nutrients, nitrogenous and otherwise, and will supply nutrients of the sort certainly needed by the young plants which will grow in a healthy way to maturity. People who want to make gardens that are geometrically neat and unchanging will have a tendency to blot out all weeds. I do not think that organic gardeners garden that way. Their technique will be to nurture those weeds which will benefit the garden, and to use mulches to get the others to subside. Garden Insects You do not have to go into a lot of work and trouble about pest control aside from the normal, sensible garden practices which tend to keep pests at a minimum. This means things like giving plants plenty of room and air; seeing to it that they are not too damp, unless they are water plants or bog plants; planting in the sun if that suits them or the shade if that suits them; and are well provided with the nutrients they require. Always select disease-resistant varieties and use companion plants. Just as important are practices which create a harmonious environment of living creatures: bees on the flowers; birds in the air and in the trees and bushes, for they are notorious consumers of insects; beneficial bacteria in the soil, for they and the molds and fungi living in the soil provide antibiotics of various sorts; predators other than birds, like the beneficial praying mantises, trichogramma wasps, lady bugs and lacewings which we know consume unwanted pests like aphids (or even the ants who farm and milk aphids for their honeydew). Berried shrubs and bird houses are good to attract birds; lady bugs can be bought, and so can the tiny wasps and the egg cases of praying mantises. Sprays can be made from garlic, hot pepper and botanicals such as the plants which have rotenone, pyrethrin andryania in them; and certain plants can be planted together which have the effect of repelling pests one from another in the practice called companion planting. And then there are the mechanical devices like traps with molasses and bran baits, or like tanglefoot as a gooey substance to put around the trunk of a tree, or like black lights to attract flying insects at night. Landlords: Heat Your Apartments with an Outdoor Wood Burning Stove

April 19th, 2008 by dayajubainville

By Brad King Owning real estate is a potentially profitable investment, especially if you make your investment rental properties. If you are making a living as a landlord, you may be able to benefit from the use of an outdoor wood burning stove. Outdoor wood stoves are used to provide heat and hot water to a number of buildings, including a home or small apartment complex. Just about any landlord may be able to benefit from the use of an outdoor wood burning stove, but some may be able to benefit from it more than others. It all depends on how you run your current rental operation. A number of factors need to be examined, including who currently pays for heat and hot water. In most cases, rent does not cover all of the utilities. It is possible to find apartments that include utilities, but they are often hard to come by. If you are currently offering apartments for rent, where the utilities are included, you will likely find that you do not have any trouble keeping your properties rented. Many renters prefer not having to worry about paying utilities bill each month. Instead of having to pay multiple bills, they prefer to pay their landlord one large sum. While you may be able to profit from providing utilities to your tenants, you may also be loosing money. It is often difficult, or impossible, to control how much heat and hot water your tenants use. This may mean a fairly large heating bill. If you currently offer heat and hot water to your tenants, but you are noticing a negative impact on your wallet, you may want to examine outdoor burning wood stoves and what they can do for you. Outdoor wood burning stoves operate on wood and water. Depending on where your apartment complex is located, you may easily be able to obtain wood for a low price. If you own property with a wooded area on it, you may even be able to obtain your wood for free. The use of wood is what makes an outdoor wood burning stove so affordable. Depending on how you use it, you may be able to save a substantial amount of money on a wood burning stove. The next question you may be asking yourself is what about multiple buildings. Outdoor wood burning stoves come in a wide variety of different makes and models. Many of these makes and models are designed to heat and provide hot water to more than one building. In addition to heating buildings, many outdoor burning wood furnaces are designed to heat swimming pools and hot tubs. If you have an onsite swimming pool or hot tub for your tenants, you may also be able to save money by using an outdoor wood burning stove. Just because you currently charge your tenants for their own heat and hot water does not mean that you cannot benefit from the use of an outdoor wood burning stove. As previously mentioned, many tenants prefer residing in an apartment or home rental that has the utilities included in their cost of rent. You may easily be able to charge this by purchasing an outdoor wood burning furnace. By charging additional money for heat and hot water, you may be able to turn a profit with the use of an outside wood burning furnace or stove. Research in Social Sciences: Qualitative and Quantitative Methods

April 16th, 2008 by dayajubainville

By Verena Veneeva Research in social sciences largely depends on measurements and analysis and interpretation of numerical as well as non numerical data. Quantitative research methods focus on statistical approaches and qualitative methods are based on content analysis, comparative analysis, grounded theory, and interpretation (Strauss, 1990). Quantitative methods emphasise on objective measurements and numerical analysis of data collected through polls, questionnaires or surveys and qualitative research focuses on understanding social phenomena through interviews, personal comments etc. Quantitative and qualitative methods are studied within the context of positivistic and phenomenological paradigms (Papers4you.com, 2006). The applications of research methods could be studied in the context of business and management or in social psychology to understand a social process. Some of the basic tools for qualitative or quantitative research are related to data collection methods which can be case studies, questionnaires or interviews (Simon et al, 1985). Research methods in management focus on leadership studies and leadership issues are examined in accordance with contingency theory and organisational theory. The effects of leadership are best studied with the help of qualitative or quantitative research methods and analyses of questionnaires sent to participants in management positions. Research methods are however focused not just on management issues but also on social process for example a study on the interaction between age, physical exercise and gender. Some disadvantages and possible flaws of such methods may be related to abuse or misuse of interview techniques, inadequacy of data collection methods and reliability of data. The methodological approach and data collection techniques are important in research and form an important aspect of study (Simon, 1985). The case study approach is especially useful in analysis of business environments and perceptual mapping techniques are used for marketing research. Focus groups and surveys are used as other preferred methods of data collection, especially within business environments (Papers4you.com, 2006). Interpretive research can be considered as an important aspect of qualitative analysis, although as with all qualitative data, subjective bias can be a deterrent in the validity of such approaches. In studying research methods, it would be necessary to highlight the differences between qualitative and quantitative methods although it has also been argued that an integrated approach to social analysis could close in the gap between quantitative and qualitative methods and both these methods could be used for social research studies. In fact there may not be a specified correct method of research as each method seems to have its strengths and weaknesses and these factors should be examined carefully before a particular method is selected or used for studying a social process. That said, there are products on our Water Treatment page that will help and even eliminate the problem, but a quick fix is just that, it will fix it for now only to let it come back later. I will list below the things that will help to bring a balance to your pond, the only true long term solution. 1) Plants - plants will compete for nutrients with the algae and provide shade that will slow down the algae’s growth. It is recomended that you have 60% of the surface area covered by water plants. The landscape around your pond will also affect algae growth, if your pond is in full sun you may have your hands full. Ponds located in partial shade will be less suceptable to green water. 2) Filtration and Water Flow - I would always recommend that you have enough pump and filtration to turn your water over at least once an hour. The inclusion of water falls and/or fountains add oxygen to the pond and can slow algae growth and is also valuable to your pond and it’s inhabitants. Filters don’t just remove the algae they add and surfaces where beneficial bacteria can thrive, in fact mechanical filtration is only effective in small ponds, biological filtration will help keep your pond in balance. The addition of beneficial bacteria strains to get the process started is recommended. 3) UV Sterilizers - when used as recommended for your pond size and with the correct pump size UV Sterilizers can cure your green water woes. You will still need to apply the other recomendations above. 4) Test Your Water - A neutral ph level is good for your fish, plants and will help cure your green water woes. Too high a ph level is just what alage needs to thrive. Test kits and ph balancers are available for very reasonable prices. In conclusion, clear water is the result of looking at most of the things that will also keep your fish and plants healthy. I wish we could sell the magic cure all but the truth is your pond is a true ecosystem and balance is vital to it’s health.
